The 5-Minute Checklist Before You Buy Anything Online

By the Daily Living Digest team · Updated November 2026

Most online shopping regrets come from skipping a few quick checks. This list takes about five minutes and saves a lot of returns.

1. Read the newest reviews, not the top ones

Sort reviews by most recent. A product that was great two years ago may have changed suppliers. Look for the same complaint repeated by several recent buyers.

2. Find the refund policy before the checkout page

Search the site for "refund" or "return". Note how many days you have and whether you pay return shipping. If you cannot find a policy at all, that is a reason to stop.

3. Check the real company behind the site

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for a company name, address and contact email. Legitimate sellers show this. Also check that the web address starts with https.

4. Compare the total, not the price

Add shipping, taxes and any "handling" fee before you compare with another store. A lower sticker price often ends up higher at checkout.

5. Pay with a method that protects you

A credit card or PayPal gives you a dispute process if the item never arrives. Avoid bank transfers or gift cards for a store you have not used before.

Bonus: if a page says "only 2 left" or shows a countdown timer, close it, wait a day, and see if the offer is still there. It usually is.
